Rossi: "Stoner zal opnieuw erg sterk zijn"

Valentino Rossi heeft er zin in. Na de zomerstop gaan de MotoGP-mannen komend weekend weer racen op het circuit van Brno en de Yamaha-coureur kan niet wachten om weer aan de slag te gaan. Hij verwacht opnieuw een zware strijd met Casey Stoner, net als op Laguna Seca.


"Vorig jaar ging het niet echt lekker in Brno", zei Rossi. "Ik kwam niet verder dan de zevende plaats en dat was behoorlijk ontgoochelend. Dit jaar gaan we echter met een hele andere instelling naar Brno. We leiden het kampioenschap na een geweldige overwinninf en onze machine en banden werken bijzonder goed. Ik heb een ontspannen vakantie gehad, maar ik kijk nu weer uit naar het racen. Ik weet dat Brno niet eenvoudig gaat worden en dat Casey een tegenstander van formaat zal zijn en we moeten in de eerste training vol aan de bak, zodat we geen tijd verliezen met het zoeken naar de juiste afstelling."

Hayden out of Brno with foot injury

2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden has pulled out of the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske republiky with a heel injury.

In a big blow for his and Repsol Honda´s 2008 season, Nicky Hayden has been ruled out of action at the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske republiky with a foot injury. The American had picked up a knock on his heel when participating in the recent Supermoto event at the X Games, part of his extra-curricular activity over the summer break, but the severity of the injury had not been expected to sideline him this weekend.
Hayden was advised against participating at Brno this week by Dr. Arthur Ting, his trusted surgeon, and specialists yesterday strongly recommended a late withdrawal from riding until the upcoming visit to Misano. The calcaneus blow will not require surgery, but rest and rehabilitation have been prescribed.
`The injury is to a weight-bearing part of the foot and the doctors say that using too much pressure on the pegs could very easily give me some big problems,´ explains Hayden, who had been looking forward to the chance of opening up the gas of his pneumatic valve Honda engine at one of the most suited tracks for the RC212V motor.
`I went to Dr Ting and got the opinion of other specialists. I´ve done a lot with Ting, he knows the sport very well and he feels it would be quite risky to ride. He and the other specialists say that if I rode this week I might have to fight the injury for the rest of the year,´ continued the Repsol Honda rider.
`As hard a decision as it is and as bad as I feel about it, I think I´m better off staying home doing rehab and physio, then come back fit at Misano and try to finish the season strong. There´s been a lot of guys this year trying to ride less than a hundred per cent and actually making their problems worse.´
It will be the second race in succession that Repsol Honda have been unable to field a full lineup, with Dani Pedrosa having withdrawn from the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix after the initial practice sessions.
`I certainly feel bad about it for my team and I apologise. I had the permission of HRC to do the Supermoto thing. I just wanted to do some riding during the break, have some fun and I thought that maybe it´d give me a little spark for the rest of the season, but it backfired on me,´ concluded Hayden frankly.
The Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske republiky will be the first race that the `Kentucky Kid´ has missed since the 2004 Portuguese round. He will obviously also miss the post-race test held at Brno.

Hopkins set for race return this weekend

Kawasaki´s John Hopkins will reassume his place on the MotoGP grid this weekend, after rehabilitating the leg fractures suffered in Assen.

After seven weeks and three races on the sidelines, John Hopkins will make a welcome comeback from a nasty leg injury when the MotoGP World Championship rolls into Brno –and the return to action could not have come at a more positive track for the Anglo-American.
Second placed at last year´s race onboard the Rizla Suzuki GSV-R, Hopkins has proved to be a strong competitor in the Czech Republic and now aims to put in a similar performance with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR. Before he can do that, however, he will have to shake off the ring rust of a trio of Grand Prix events without lining up on the grid and test the condition of his left leg post-rehab.
`I´m feeling pretty good now, and I´m anxious to get back on track. I´ve now got full movement back in the injured knee and it´s been fine during my training regime up to now. I don´t think it´s going to cause me any problems on the bike, but it´s been almost seven weeks since I´ve thrown a leg over the Ninja ZX-RR, so I won´t know for sure until we start free practice on Friday,´ says Hopkins, who has a particular affinity for the track at which he was so impressive in 2007.
`Brno is a track I like a lot, and I believe it´s the MotoGP track I´ve ridden most frequently in my career, which means I know the place like the back of my hand. Also, our Bridgestone tyres work well at this track, and this combined with the new parts that Kawasaki are bringing to the race means we´ve got some positive things to work with,´ says `Team Green´s 25 year-old star.
`Even though the rehab at home with family and friends has been enjoyable, I am really looking forward to seeing the team, getting back on the bike and finding again the total mental focus necessary for the best possible result this weekend.´
Hopkins has not competed in a MotoGP race since the bwin.com British Grand Prix on June 22nd.

Five-time former MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi will resume his quest to regain the premier-class title this weekend after the summer holiday, with the Italian leading the series by 25 points as he heads into what promises to be a thrilling seven-race climax to the year.
The Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky is the twelfth of eighteen rounds and Rossi heads to the motorcycling heartlands of eastern Europe with renewed energy and ready to do battle again at one of his most successful circuits, following a stunning maiden win at Laguna Seca before the break.
The 29-year-old took his first ever Grand Prix win at Brno in the 125cc category and has since added to his tally there with a 250cc success and three wins in MotoGP, as well as three second places in the premier class.
His success in America, which came after a thrilling tussle with Casey Stoner, means `The Doctor´ holds a clear advantage at the top of the standings, but the Australian is also in red-hot form at present and will be pushing Rossi right to the limit as the season progresses – whilst third-placed Dani Pedrosa will be back from injury at Brno and also looking to re-enter the title fight.
`Last year we had a bad time at Brno,´ admitted Rossi, `I could only finish seventh and it was quite disheartening. This year, however, we´re going there in a very different frame of mind: leading the championship, following a great win and with our bike and tyres working very well. I´ve had a good summer break, just relaxing with my friends and family, but now I am really looking forward to going racing again.´
`I know that Brno is going to be hard and that Casey will be a formidable competitor once again,´ continued Rossi. `We're going to have to work at the maximum from the first practice in order not to lose any time in finding out the right set-up for our bike. We have seven races left and I am dreaming of them all being as fun as Laguna Seca.´
Whilst Rossi and his fellow riders have recently taken a well-earned rest, engineers at Yamaha´s factory headquarters in Japan have been working around the clock over the summer towards this weekend´s action, as well as for the two-day test that will take place afterwards.
Team Manager in Rossi´s half of the partitioned Fiat Yamaha pit-box, Davide Brivio, comments, `Brno will be the start of a very important run of seven rounds to the end of the season. With 25 points on Stoner and 41 on Pedrosa we are in a good position, but we have to manage this advantage in the remaining races. It will be an exciting end to the season, with Pedrosa back in the fight and (Jorge) Lorenzo, I am sure, able to re-join the podium club.´
`Last year, at most of these final circuits, we weren´t able to fight at the top but we are working hard now to be able to provide Valentino with the most competitive package to allow him to race at the front, as he has for the majority of this year´s races,´ Brivio went on to say. `Every race from now on will be very important and Brno could be one of the most difficult for us against our competitors. We have to use all of our potential and work at 100% in all of the practices.´

Na afloop van de race in Laguna Seca liet Stoner al weten absoluut niet blij te zijn met de agressieve rijstijl van de Fiat Yamaha coureur en weigerde hij Rossi de hand te schudden. Nu er enkele weken verstreken zijn blijkt de Ducati Marlboro coureur het voorval nog steeds niet vergeten te zijn en liet hij in de Spaanse media weten alle respect voor Rossi te zijn verloren na het voorval.
"In Laguna heb ik het respect in hem verloren. Ik probeer altijd te racen met mijn rivalen op een eerlijke en nette manier. Ik weet dat Valentino een voorbeeldige rijder is die een geweldige race heeft gereden, echter ben ik heel erg teleurgesteld met de tactiek die hij gebruikte om van mij te winnen. Hij ging echt te ver."

"De Ducati is nu heel erg competitief en ik geloof dat ik sneller kan zijn dan Rossi. Hij weet dat ook en dat is iets wat hem ongerust maakt. Ik zou het waarschijnlijk beter niet kunnen zeggen maar ik denk dat in Laguna zijn ambities om te winnen groter waren dan wat hij fysiek kon."

Leading World Championship pair Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner both attended the official press conference at the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky on Thursday and after their amazing duel in the United States last month the duo are ready for more of the same.
The legendary Italian rider and his young Australian counterpart were the focus of worldwide attention after their brilliant American fight and Stoner´s post-race comments questioning Rossi´s tactics added to the hype - but the two stars shared smiles and a handshake in the Brno media centre as they looked forward to further drama this weekend.
World Champion Stoner, who trails Rossi by 25 points in the general classification, appeared to have mellowed in his view on the Laguna contest declaring, `Like all riders we react the way that we do sometimes. Valentino has made comments that I have agreed with on what Toni (Elias) has done in the past. Maybe we over-reacted.´
`I think I am going to hopefully just be putting up more of a fight in the last few laps this time, whereas I ran off and crashed at the last race. It would be nice if I can put pressure on right up until the last lap.´
Rossi reflected on his victory on in California last month saying, `It was a fantastic race for me and for my team because we were able to produce a great performance. We were working hard throughout the weekend, I had a good setting and it was a great, great battle with Stoner.´
In reference to this weekend's twelfth GP of the year Rossi added, `I had a bad race here last year but some good results here in the past. It is a track that I like and where I won my first Grand Prix in 1996. I am very curious to try it out on the Bridgestone tyres and to understand the grip and the potential of the new surface.´
Commenting on the title race `The Doctor´ also said, `Seven races are a lot. It is a long way. We have to work hard because there are a lot of different tracks from here until the end of the season.´
Meanwhile, Stoner provided his perspective on the championship run-in joking, `For Valentino it is a long way to the end of the season but for us it is a short time! We always need more races, but we can only do what we can do and we look forward to the rest of the season.´

Pedrosa sees tough task in catching World Championship frontrunners

Dani Pedrosa is well aware of the difficulty facing him in catching World Championship leader Valentino Rossi in the standings.

In just two races Dani Pedrosa has gone from the leader of the MotoGP World Championship to the third placed rider in the standings, some 41 points from current top man Valentino Rossi. This has been the consequence of two races without taking a single point –a DNF at Sachsenring combined with a withdrawal from competition at Laguna Seca.
The opportunity to take a first MotoGP world title now looks a much slimmer shot than it did just over a month ago, and the Repsol Honda rider himself acknowledged the size of the task ahead when answering questions at the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske republiky press conference.
`Of course it´s going to be tough, because also at the moment the level is high,´said the Spaniard when reminded of the large points deficit that he must overcome. `We have to improve our whole package to be fast at every track. It´s only a month since the operation (on his hand, injured in a crash whilst leading in Sachserning) but I hope it can be better and better, because sometimes you can feel pain for longer when you are pushing so hard.´
The mission to regain ground begins at Brno this weekend, and Pedrosa expects to be in better condition than his what turned out to be premature previous return to action.
`You never know until you actually jump on the bike, but it should be better and I hope that this is enough.,´ he stated.

Casey Stoner: “Misschien heb ik te fel gereageerd”

Tijdens de persconferentie voorafgaand aan de trainingen voor de Tsjechische GP kwam het tot een bijzonder onderonsje tussen Casey Stoner en Valentino Rossi. Terwijl John Hopkins aan het woord was, wendde Stoner zich tot Rossi en na een paar woorden schudden de twee elkaar de hand.
Kritiek
Het duo vocht een fantastisch duel uit in Laguna Seca dat tot een voortijdig einde kwam toen Stoner crashte. Na afloop uitte de wereldkampioen felle kritiek op de agressieve strijdwijze van Rossi. Bijna vier weken na de Amerikaanse GP bleek Stoner wat bijgedraaid. “Misschien heb ik in Laguna wat te fel gereageerd”, gaf de Australiër toe. “Soms zeg je wel eens wat ‘in the heat of the moment’. Ik weet zeker dat Valentino dat gevoel ook kent. Hij heeft Toni Elias ook wel eens zwaar bekritiseerd.”

Respect
De “handshake” die volgde kon gezien worden als een soort boetedoening van Stoner. In Amerika had hij Rossi beschuldigd van onsportief rijden en acties die over de grens van het toelaatbare gingen. Vorig jaar toonde Stoners speciale wereldtitelshirt in Japan namen van coureurs die hem geïnspireerd hadden. Rossi’s naam stond er prominent op vermeld. Na de clash in Laguna vertelde Stoner echter dat hij “veel respect voor Rossi was verloren”. In Brno stelde hij zijn mening bij. “Ik heb nog veel respect voor Valentino. Hij reed in Laguna een super wedstrijd en hij was er erg op gebrand om daar voor het eerst een race te winnen. Ik zie het als een eer als ik hem nog weer eens kan verslaan.”

Niet boos
Rossi accepteerde Stoners excuses. “Casey zei ‘sorry’”, aldus de WK-leider. “Maar ik ben niet boos op hem. Ik weet hoe het voelt als je op zo’n manier verliest. Maar ik ben klaar voor nog zo’n race.”

Bijzonder
Het circuit van Brno heeft voor zowel Rossi als Stoner een bijzondere betekenis. Rossi won er twaalf jaar geleden zijn eerste GP, Stoner reed er vorig jaar onstuitbaar naar een indrukwekkende overwinning.

Casey Stoner zet orde op zaken in tweede training Brno Grand Prix

Casey Stoner was vanmiddag de grote man tijdens de tweede (nog steeds droge) sessie, Valentino Rossi moest ditmaal genoegen nemen met een tweede plaats. Lange tijd was het verschil meer dan een halve seconde, in de slotfase verkleinde Rossi het verschil tot 0,179 sec. Rossi's landgenoot Loris Capirossi sloot met een derde tijd de sessie als beste Suzuli rijder af.De verschillen zijn wat kleiner dan vanochtend, Capirossi was nu bijvoorbeeld zo'n driekwart van een seconde langzamer dan Stoner, terwijl de 3e man van vanmorgen (Nakano) in de eerste training meer dan een seconde toe moest geven op Rossi die toen de beste tijd reed.

Shinya Nakano was met P4 net als vanmorgen de beste Honda rijder, zijn Gresini Honda teamgenoot Alex De Angelis was een 5e plaats opnieuw goed voorin te vinden en net als vanmorgen is hij voorlopig de snelste 'rookie'. Jorge Lorenzo, Andrea Dovizioso en James Toseland vinden we terug op de 11e tot en met 13e positie.

Achter Chris Vermeulen (net als vanmorgen 6e) was Colin Edwards opnieuw de snelste Michelin rijder. Edwards noteerde de 7e tijd, vanochtend was het verschil naar de snelste rijder voor hem nog meer dan 2 seconden, vanmiddag verkleinde hij het gat naar minder dan 1,5. John Hopkins was met een 8e tijd weer de snelste Kawasaki rijder, het team Alice duo Toni Elías en Sylvain Guintoli maakten de top 10 (opnieuw door Bridgestone gedomineerd) vol.

Randy De Puniet bewees met 2 valpartijen weer zijn repuatie als king of crash (http://www.motogp-news.nl/crash_test.html), de Fransman moest genoegen nemen met een 14e plaatsR Marco Melandri zakte na een redelijke ochtendtraining naar P15.
Daniel Pedrosa blijft worstelen, de Repsol Honda rijder lijkt nog verre van fit en noteerde een 16e tijd, alleen Kawasaki rijder Anthony West was nog langzamer. West zal morgen, als het waarschijnlijk regent tijdens de kwalificatie, misschien toch nog goede zaken kunnen doen.

Problemen voor Stoner en Pedrosa



Casey Stoner en Dani Pedrosa kampen in Brno met grote problemen. Hoewel de Australiër na twee vrije trainingen weliswaar de snelste tijd klokte, is hij verre van fit.
Maagkrampen
“Het kostte me al energie om mijn handschoenen aan te trekken”, vertelde Stoner. Langer dan vijf ronden bleef de wereldkampioen niet op de baan. “Dat is moeilijk voor mijn technische staf, maar ik hield het niet langer vol. Dan krijg ik ernstige maagkrampen.”

Nieuw asfalt
In de ochtendtraining kende Stoner problemen met de nieuwe asfaltlaag. Zijn tijden waren echter nog steeds erg snel; alleen Valentino Rossi was in de eerste vrije training sneller. “Als je het asfalt zo ziet, denk je dat het mooi glad is. Maar het is heel agressief voor de voorband. In de middag hebben we de hardste compound gebruikt, net als in Laguna en in Duitsland. We hebben ook de geometrie wat aangepast en dat hielp. Daarom was het zo frustrerend dat ik het zelf niet waar kon maken.”

Banden
Dani Pedrosa stond na twee trainingen pas als zestiende op de lijst. De Repsol/Honda-coureur had nog steeds veel last van zijn linker pols en wijsvinger. Daarbij kwam dat de Michelin-banden ook in Brno duidelijk minder zijn dan de Bridgestones. Colin Edwards was met een zevende tijd de enige Michelin-rijder in de top 10. Vooral de voorbanden blijken het nieuwe asfalt niet aan te kunnen.

Stoner domineert doorweekte kwalificatie Brno

Casey Stoner was vanmorgen tijdens de derde training de snelste in Brno. Deze training werd op een kletsnatte baan verreden en dan is het geen verassing dat we Chris Vermeulen met de Suzuki op de tweede plaats zien. Alex De Angelis was in zijn 250cc een erkend regen- rijder en liet dat vanmorgen ook weer zien met een nette derde tijd voor teamgenoot Shinya Nakano die vierde was.

op nat Brno de snelste rijder
Net als op een droge baan lijkt Bridgestone ook op een nat circuit de beste papieren te hebben, Dani Pedrosa was verassend de snelste Michelin rijder met een 8 tijd. Dat Pedrosa toch wel snel kan zijn liet hij onlangs al op de Sachsenring zien totdat hij in leidende positie tijdens de race onderuit ging.

Weer slechts een Michelin rijder in de top 10, net als gisteren tijdens de beide droge trainingen. Het lijkt net als op Laguna Seca weer een dramatisch weekend te worden voor het Franse bandenmerk. De Tech-3 boys (Edwards en Toseland) bezetten de laatste twee posities, voor hun zijn de omstandigheden extra moeilijk aangezien ze nu dezelfde machines als Rossi en Lorenzo ter beschikking hebben, dit kost blijkbaar nog wat extra tijd voor het vinden van de juiste afstelling.

Zoals het nu lijkt zal ook de kwalificatie van vanmiddag onder natte omstandigheden worden verreden.

125cc: Regen speelt Talmacsi in de kaart

Door de regenbuien op zaterdagochtend kwam de voorlopige pole position van Gabor Talmacsi voor de Grand Prix van Tsjechië niet meer in gevaar.
Fans
Het geweldige rondje dat Talmacsi gisteren onder het toeziend oog van duizenden Hongaarse fans aan het einde van de eerste kwalificatie reed, is genoeg geweest voor de pole position. Door regenbuien in Brno kwam niemand meer in de buurt van de tijden van gisteren.

Di Meglio
Talmacsi wordt op de eerste rij geflankeerd door Nicolas Terol, regenspecialist Andrea Iannone en Bradley Smith. Kampioensleider Mike di Meglio start als vijfde. Drie plaatsen voor zijn titelrivaal Simon Corsi.

DeGraaf
Danny Webb is op een 16e plaats de beste DeGraaf-coureur. Steve Bonsey start als 18e en Hugo van den Berg, die hard ten val kwam, begint als 35ste aan de race in Brno.

250cc: Simoncelli ondanks val op pole

Op een nat circuit van Brno scoorde Marco Simoncelli een van de mooiste pole positions uit zijn carrière. Hij troefde in een fraai gevecht Hector Barbera af die gisteren nog de voorlopige pole pakte.
Schouwspel
Simoncelli en Barbera maakten er op het regenachtige circuit van Brno een geweldig schouwspel van. De Italiaan en Spanjaard wisselden elkaar keer op keer af als polesitter.

Val
Vijf minuten voor tijd leek het in het voordeel uit te vallen van Barbera toen Simoncelli onderuit ging. De Gilera-coureur wist echter weer terug te komen op de baan en leek geen last te hebben van zijn val. Met een ultiem rondje wist hij de pole van een verbaasde Barbera af te snoepen.

Debon
Barbera moest uiteindelijk zelfs genoegen nemen met een derde plaats op de startgrid. Op het allerlaatste moment kwam landgenoot Alex Debon nog langszij.

ik heb toch vragen met het kwaliteit van de micheline .
In de motogp kunnen ze het niet en twee jaar geleden hebben ze in F1 ook al zware problemen gehad zoals in de GP van amerika waar er maar 6 (bridstone's)van de 20 wagens konden starten .
Ze kunnen er beter mee stoppen als ze niet willen investeren in ontwikkeling hun banden .

Suffering Stoner sends the doctor away for Brno pole

Despite feeling less than 100% with a fever, there was no stopping Casey Stoner from taking a sixth successive pole position for the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky, as the Australian imposed his will on his rivals in a wet qualifying session.
Stoner recorded a fastest time of 2´11.657 in the soaking session, giving him the longest pole streak since fellow countryman Mick Doohan´s twelve-in-a-row from 1997. In doing so, he relegated MotoGP´s self-styled `Doctor´ -World Championship leader Valentino Rossi- down to second on the grid. Rossi was suffering his own ailment on Saturday, with an ear and sinus infection posing him problems. Even with their respective medical woes, both Stoner and Rossi can be expected to battle against each other once more in Brno when the red light goes out on Sunday.
The front row will be completed by last year´s runner-up at Brno, Kawasaki´s John Hopkins, as the Anglo-American lines up for his first MotoGP race since the June visit to Donington Park. A first front row for `Team Green´ marked an ideal return for Hopkins, who will be out for a maiden podium to salvage something from his 2008 campaign.
Out to stop him is former teammate Chris Vermeulen, the Rizla Suzuki rider who heads the second row. Vermeulen has been on the rostrum at the last two races, and conditions were favourable for the wet weather specialist to classify himself ahead of Alex de Angelis and Anthony West –the remaining duo on the second line as both had their best qualifying sessions of the year.
Randy De Puniet ran off track after recording his fastest time of the qualifying period, and elected against another attempt at bettering his marker. His LCR Honda bike fell in the gravel as it came to the end of its trajectory, with some minor repairs made as the Frenchman returned to the garage. De Puniet was the highest placing Michelin rider in seventh, and the only non-Bridgestone representative in the top ten.
San Carlo Honda Gresini´s Shinya Nakano was getting used to the factory spec RC212V that he will race for the first time, a task made more difficult by the drenched track. He starts from row three, a line concluded by Loris Capirossi, who ran off in the early going.
Crashing at the midway point of the session was Tech 3 Yamaha´s James Toseland, who avoided lowsiding his M1 but was unable to avoid a tumble.

Bradl opens 125cc win account with Czech victory

German rider Stefan Bradl took a maiden 125cc triumph at the first Sunday race in Brno.

Starting from thirteenth on the grid at Brno, Stefan Bradl became the third 125cc rider to win a first Grand Prix in 2008 with an assured ride.
Ending a long drought for German riders in the World Championship, the Grizzly Gas Kiefer Racing rider worked his way up to the frontrunners on the opening laps, before taking the lead definitively just before the midway stage. A series of fastest laps allowed Bradl to break free, putting enough of a gap between himself and the podium battle to avoid any late surprises.
The Czech Republic win was Bradl´s third career podium, coming off the back of his home runner-up spot at the recent German round of the 125cc series.
World Championship leader Mike di Meglio set himself the task of stalking Bradl on the final laps of the race, closing the gap down to under a second as the lap counter ticked down. The Ajo Motorsport rider was unable to catch the eventual winner, but extended his lead in the standings with a sixth podium of the 2008 season.
The large Hungarian following present at Brno to cheer on Gabor Talmacsi left without the chance to see their hero on the podium, as the Mapfre Aspar rider missed out on the podium in a final lap duel with Joan Olive. A last gasp attempt to draft the Spaniard was unsuccessful, and the reigning 125cc World Champion was eliminated from the rostrum by less than a tenth of a second.
Nico Terol and Bradley Smith were both involved in the early fight from the front row of the grid, but tailed off towards the end of the 19-lap race to finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Sandro Cortese, Pol Espargaro, Andrea Iannone and Simone Corsi concluded the top ten.

Debon on song to snatch 250cc win

Lotus Aprilia´s Alex Debon took victory in Brno on the final lap of the 250cc race.

Alex Debon put on a late, late show to take the second victory of his 250cc career, using every ounce of his experience to slip past Marco Simoncelli on the final lap in Brno.
The Lotus Aprilia rider´s chance of victory looked to have fallen by the wayside with two laps to go, as poleman Simoncelli ducked inside him and established what seemed to be an unassailable gap. However, Debon was not in the mood to settle for second, and pinned his hopes on a final lap fightback that paid dividends for the Spaniard.
Fellow Spaniard Alvaro Bautista also took advantage of a Simoncelli slip-up, taking a hard-fought second place from tenth on the grid. The Bancaja Aspar rider had less than a tenth of a second ahead of his Italian rival as the twosome crossed the finish line, continuing his attempt to salvage something from a 2008 season blighted by misfortune.
Metis Gilera rider Simoncelli completed the podium at the track where he had first tested the RSA machine, and extended his advantage in the World Championship classification. The man with the points total closest to him – Red Bull KTM man Mika Kallio- came in fifth behind Hector Barbera.
Yuki Takahashi, Mattia Pasini, Hector Faubel, Roberto Locatelli and Aleix Espargaro were the final riders in the top ten, whilst the only crashes of the race came from home rider Karel Abraham and Swiss star Thomas Luthi.

ik heb toch vragen met het kwaliteit van de micheline .
In de motogp kunnen ze het niet en twee jaar geleden hebben ze in F1 ook al zware problemen gehad zoals in de GP van amerika waar er maar 6 (bridstone's)van de 20 wagens konden starten .
Ze kunnen er beter mee stoppen als ze niet willen investeren in ontwikkeling hun banden .

Als ge uwe hand niet in het vuur steekt kun je hem ook niet verbranden...
Wat ik wil zeggen is dat ge enkel kunt toejuichen dat (banden)merken deze investeringen willen maken en ons op deze mannier topsport bezorgen.
Der steken volgens mij veels te weinig merken hun hand in het vuur en als je steenharde liefhebber bent van moto-GP dan rij je enkel op merken die hun steentje bijdragen tot wat er op uw buis te zien is :applaus:

Valentino Rossi extended his World Championship lead to 50 points in Brno, sharing the podium with Toni Elias and Loris Capirossi.

Valentino Rossi once again benefitted from Casey Stoner´s misfortune for a second consecutive MotoGP victory, crossing the finish line first at the Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky. The Fiat Yamaha rider´s win –coupled with an early crash from his title rival- increased his lead to 50 points in the standings and dealt a crucial strike to his World Championship chances.
Stoner was caught by surprise on the sixth lap when out at the front. He had over a second of advantage over Rossi after taking the holeshot, but slipped his front wheel out on the new Brno asphalt and was lowsided into the gravel. It was Stoner´s first rider-provoked DNF since his joining the Ducati Marlboro team for the 2007 season.
Ducati were, however, represented on the podium in the Czech Republic, courtesy of Alice Team rider Toni Elias. The Spaniard had experienced problems on the sighting lap –a sign that did not bode well for his race- but burst through the 800cc stars ahead of him from thirteenth on the grid. His second place marks the first podium for both he and his satellite team in 2008, and he became only the second satellite rider to step onto the rostrum this year.
Another podium first came from Loris Capirossi, as the veteran made his maiden appearance on the rostrum for Rizla Suzuki. The Italian had taken off from the end of the third row, but showed that there was still life in his MotoGP career by making Suzuki the fourth manufacturer with which he had taken a top three finish in the premier class.
Shinya Nakano paid back Honda for their decision to supply him with a factory spec RC212V for the remainder of the season, giving an immediate return with fourth place for San Carlo Honda Gresini. The Japanese rider was the highest placing rider for the manufacturer, with Michelin-shod factory man Dani Pedrosa way down in fifteenth place.
Riding for his future in MotoGP, Anthony West had the best result of his premier class career onboard the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR. The Australian came home fifth after a superb ride, holding off fellow countryman Chris Vermeulen.
Marco Melandri finished seventh in a race that will do much to aid his cause, whilst the top ten was completed by Alex de Angelis, Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo. The latter two were the only Michelin riders amongst the first ten past the line.

`I knew today would be very difficult with Casey (Stoner) so strong, and his first lap was impressive. I lost a bit of time with John (Hopkins) in the first corner, because he overtook me. This time we had the pace with Stoner, and I was catching up with him. I knew my setting and tyres were working well. I think I could possibly have beaten him in a battle. Unfortunately he crashed, and then I was ahead with a 11 second lead. If he hadn´t have crashed then things would have been tougher, for sure.´Toni Elias – Second Placed

De 125cc klasse , en 250 cc was weer superspannend !! Het valt me op dat de motogp daartegenover maar slappe koffie is zenne !

Persoonlijk vindt ik dat alle Michelin piloten, hadden moeten binnenkomen, bij wijze van protest !! Er was een voorstel om dit te doen, maar blijkbaar dachten ze : beter 1 punt, dan geen punten.

Rossi elated with easier-than-expected Brno win

Having psyched himself up for another battle with Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi could hardly believe his luck when the Australian crashed out in front of him.

50 points -the equivalent of two races- separate Valentino Rossi from his nearest rival after consecutive victories at Laguna Seca and Brno. Whilst his was a day to remember, Fiat Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo had a difficult fight with his Michelin tyres for tenth place.

`I was confident today because my bike was fast from Friday practice, and with Jeremy we made a small modification to the front after warm-up to allow me to be a bit faster in some sections, and it worked very well. I lost about half a second getting past Hopkins at the start and Casey was incredibly fast at that stage, like he´d already done ten laps! For a short time I was worried but then, after two laps, I understood that my bike was working very well and that I was fast enough to try to catch him. I had closed a little bit already and gradually the red bike was becoming a bit bigger in front of me, and I think this is when he started to push harder and made his mistake. I was anticipating a very hard battle if I did catch him, so when I saw the red bike slide out I could hardly believe it – this made things a lot easier for me! After that I just enjoyed riding my bike; my Bridgestone tyres worked very well until the end and my M1 felt very good. Of course I can't count this as a complete victory because Casey fell, and I am sorry for him, but this is racing and I have to be happy with this result. We are 50 points clear which is a lot and I am very excited to be going to Misano in this situation. However we know that 50 points is still not always enough when you have someone as strong as Casey and so we won´t relax. Now we have two days of testing and we will try some new electronics in order to help me open the throttle earlier and also, of course, test some Bridgestone tyres.´Jorge Lorenzo - Tenth

`This race is a bit sad for me because we have the potential to do a lot better. However considering what has happened this weekend and, above all, the problems with the front tyre, I think we have done almost as much as we could. At the start I didn´t want to take too many risks and I could feel that the front tyre was getting worse on each lap, but on the other hand the rear tyre was getting better each lap! I know that we have had had problems this weekend but I know that Michelin are working very hard, so now we will try to use the test to make some improvements. I want to say thank you to all of my team for their hard work, congratulate Valentino for his victory and finally also Toni Elias for his podium.´

Valentino Rossi deed vanmiddag op Brno goede zaken voor een 8e wereldkampioenschap door de zege te pakken terwijl zijn directe concurrenten fouten maakten of punten lieten liggen. Casey Stoner ging in de 7e ronde onderuit door een
crash over het voorwiel in de recherbocht voor de heuvel die naar start/finish leidt, Daniel Pedrosa viel na een goede start ver terug en eindigde als 15e en voorlaatste.

Je mag je haast afvragen of Stoner niet een beetje de druk van Rossi begon te voelen. Stoner had een goede start en al gauw een voorsprong van meer dan een seconde op de Italiaan. Toen Rossi beter in zijn ritme kwam verkleinde hij het gat met kleine fracties van een seconde. In ronde 6 had hij er twee tiende van afgeknabbeld, iets wat Stoner ook door kreeg van zijn pitbemanning. Het is best voor te stellen dat dit in Stoner´s hoofd heeft meegespeeld dat hij de concentratie hierdoor een beetje verloor. Rossi heeft nu 50 punten voorsprong op Stoner en 65 op Daniel Pedrosa.

Ondanks het uitvallen van Stoner stond er toch een Ducati op het podium vandaag want Toni Elías zorgde voor de verassing van de dag. De Spanjaard reed vanaf de 13e startplaats een goed opgebouwde race en eindigde als tweede voor de herboren Loris Capirossi die voor Suzuki´s derde achtereenvolgende podium zorgde. Elías stond voor het eerst weer op het podium sinds Motegi 2007 en was na Colin Edwards op Le Mans de tweede rijder van een satellietteam die dit jaar op het podium stond. Voor Capirossi was het de eerste maal dat hij namens Suzuki het podium beklom.

Als 4e kwam Shinya Nakano over de meet. De Japanner had een matige start en kwam in de slotfase pas goed naar voren en verwees als beste Honda rijder Kawasaki´s Anthony West in de 17e ronde van de race terug naar de 5e plaats. Voor West was dit zijn beste klassering uit zijn carrière.

Chris Vermeulen leek vooraf een bijna zekere podiumkandidaat na een tot dusver goed verlopen weekend. De Australiër kende echter wat problemen waardoor hij het tempo moest laten zakken, Chris moest genoegen nemen met een 6e plaats. Marco Melandri eindigde na een sterke eindfase als beste fabrieks Ducati rijder op de 7e positie net voor Alex De Angelis met de tweede Gresini Honda.

Andrea Dovizioso kwam als beste Michelin rijder op een voor hem teleurstellende 9e plaats binnen terwijl Jorge Lorenzo zich in de laatste ronde nog opwerkte naar een 10e plaats. Lorenzo had in de ronde eerst Sylvain Guintoli (12e) en vervolgens John Hopkins gepasseerd die 11e werd. Voor Hopkins moet dit een teleurstelling geweest zijn bij zijn terugkeer nadat hij lange tijd in de buurt van de 5e plaats had rondgereden, blijkbaar is hij toch nog niet volkomen fit.

De rest van het klassement werd volgemaakt door Michelin rijders; het Tech-3 Yamaha duo James Toseland en Colin Edwards werden 13e en 14e, Repsol Honda rijder Dani Pedrosa haalde met een 15e plaats het laatste puntje binnen. De Spanjaard kende een goede start en kwam na de eerste ronde zelfs als 6e door. Geplaagd door zijn blessures verloor hij echter al snel veel tijd. In de slotfase was hij bijna 4 seconden langzamer dan de achter hem rijdende Randy De Puniet die hem nog bijna wist te pakken voor het vallen van de vlag. De Puniet was in de beginfase voor de 4e maal dit weekend gevallen en moest zijn race als allerlaatste vervolgen.
250cc: Debon sterkste in Tsjechië

Met een do-or-die actie in de laatste bocht pakte veteraan Alex Debon een felbevochten zege in de Grand Prix van Tsjechië.
Gevecht
In de voorlaatste ronde leek het er nog op alsof kamioensleider Marco Simoncelli definitief de leiding pakte in het driemansgevecht om de winst tussen de Italiaan, Alvaro Bautista en Alex Debon.

Derde
Maar in de laatste bocht voor de finish remde Debon enorm laat. Simoncelli schrok daarvan en verloor niet alleen de leiding, maar zakte zelfs weg naar plaats drie. Bautista pakt de tweede plek.

Kampioenschap
Ondanks de teleurstelling van zijn derde plaats deed Simoncelli wel goede zaken in het kampioenschap omdat Mika Kallio niet verder kwam dan een vijfde plaats.
125cc: Bradl pakt eindelijk overwinning

Stefan Bradl heeft in Brno eindelijk zijn langverwachte eerste overwinning gescoord. De Duitser hield in een droge race kampioensleider Mike di Meglio knap achter zich.
Di Meglio
De Meglio deed met zijn tweede plaats uitstekende zaken in het kampioenschap. Zijn naaste concurrent in de titelstrijd, Simone Corsi, kwam niet verder dan een tiende plaats. Zijn achterstand op Di Meglio bedraagt nu 44 punten.

First day of testing positive experience for Stoner

Casey Stoner had little new to test in Brno on Monday, but still used his time to the fullest to lower his practice markers and top the timesheet.

The fastest rider of the post-race Monday in Brno, Casey Stoner had the kind of positive test welcomed by the Ducati Marlboro team. The Australian was immediately fast onboard the Desmosedici GP8 with very little warmup, and concluded the first of two sessions in the Czech Republic with the quickest time of the day, a 1´56.261.
`It has been a really positive day. We didn't have too much to test - a couple of new tyres and that's about it - but we managed to find a new setting to improve on what was already a very good situation,´ said the 2007 MotoGP World Champion, whose weekend was only blighted by a lack of points to show for his fast times in practice. He believed that his pace could have been even faster in the run-up to the race, had it not have been for the sickness experienced on arrival in Brno.
`I managed to drop my lap times by almost a second on yesterday and that´s really positive. Unfortunately my physical condition on Friday and the rain on Saturday meant that we didn´t head into the race in the best possible shape. In any case I´m happy because the things we´ve improved today will be useful for the upcoming races. Hopefully the weather´s good to us again tomorrow so we can finish the job off with Bridgestone.´
Stoner and his bike will need to be in the best shape possible over the next six races, as he looks to make up a 50-point deficit between himself and MotoGP World Championship leader Valentino Rossi.

Stoner still leading the way in Tuesday Brno testing

After his timesheet-topping workout on Monday at Brno, World Champion Casey Stoner was again on the pace in the early part of the second day´s testing in the Czech Republic.

With a reduced field of riders trying to match his times on Tuesday morning at the historic Czech circuit of Brno, Ducati Marlboro´s Casey Stoner set the pace once more as the second day of post-Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky testing got underway.
After a busy day on Monday the 250cc contingent and the likes of Dani Pedrosa, Colin Edwards, Randy De Puniet, Andrea Dovizioso, Alex de Angelis and Alice Team colleagues Sylvain Guintoli and Toni Elias have departed, leaving a group of eleven riders to continue with the hard graft ahead of next week´s trip to Misano.
Undertaking regular four-lap stints on the Desmosedici GP8 as he attempts to put the nightmare of Sunday´s DNF out of his mind, Stoner set a remarkable time of 1´55.904 on race tyres shortly before midday on Tuesday. That left him 0.764s ahead of nearest rival Valentino Rossi on the 1pm timesheet – the lap also being marginally quicker than Rossi´s two-year old pole position record.
Despite still being uncomfortable on the Yamaha M1 due to his Laguna Seca injuries Jorge Lorenzo continues to put the laps in, with him and Tech 3 counterpart James Toseland being the only regular premier class riders on Michelin tyres still in attendance.

Czech test concludes with Stoner on top again

As the post-Cardion ab Grand Prix Ceske republiky test concluded on Tuesday World Champion Casey Stoner was, yet again, the man at the top of the timesheet.

Attempting to rebuild his confidence onboard his Desmosedici GP8 following his costly crash at Brno on Sunday, Casey Stoner again demonstrated the competitiveness of his current Ducati Marlboro package with a 1´55.855s lap of the Czech circuit on Tuesday.
The time was by far the quickest of any undertaken by the eleven riders in attendance testing their 800cc prototypes and kept Stoner ahead of Czech Republic race-winner, and second fastest Tuesday participant, Valentino Rossi, by a margin of 0.758s.
Stoner achieved a remarkable time of 1´55.904s on race tyres - faster than Rossi´s two-year old pole record – on just his seventeenth lap of the day, before shaving that time down on qualifying tyres just before 4pm as he wrapped things up early.
Stoner had been tyre testing in an effort to reduce the angle of lean that he carries in corners and keep the bike more upright, allowing better entry and exit speeds – and Ducati believe they have found a way of doing this. The high lean angle is what Stoner blames for his Sunday crash so he will be happy to have made progress on the issue.
Rossi, meanwhile, also continued with a programme of Bridgestone tyre testing, as well as working on electronics and general set-up. He tried some qualifying tyres but his best time of the day, a lap of 1´56.613, was set on a race tyre.
Rizla Suzuki were satisfied by the durability of the new Bridgestone front tyres on offer as their riders Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen concluded the day third and fourth respectively.
Shinya Nakano was fifth as he tested tyres, new front disk brake compounds for Nissin and the generic set-up of his recently received factory-spec RC212V.
Kawasaki are positive about their evolving Ninja ZX-RR but the test workload was left to Anthony West and Olivier Jacque after John Hopkins was forced to sit out proceedings due to torn rib cartilage sustained in one of his comeback weekend crashes.
